I have been sick seemingly for the whole of November. Still, I am trying to savour the sunny days and first snow of the season that blanketed Copenhagen in a layer of sparkles. I finally purchased a sleeping bag coat that falls around my calves and essentially makes me look like the michelin tire man. At 33, I seem to have finally outgrown suffering for fashion, and I just want to be warm this winter. I give it until February before that wears off and I am back to dressing for the weather I want rather than the weather I have.
Weekly Report:
Reading:
Thinking Like an Iceberg
I am currently knee deep researching an upcoming exhibition at the gallery surrounding landscapes. I am always interested in the exercise of anthropomorphising the natural world and this meditation on the affinities and insecurities of icebergs has me captivated.
The Secret History again
I have physically read this book 3 times, and I have listened to this book hundreds (yes, I looked at my audible stats) of times. It is my comfort book. There when I need it and always giving me something new upon each re-read/re-listen. See below for obsessive conspiracy theories.
Eating:
Alison Roman’s Gorgeous Chili
I made this on Sunday and ate it all week. I highly recommend quickled shallots and jalapeños as a topping.
Playing:
Laufey’s Santa Baby Music Video on repeat
HBO Girls rewatch
As it seems everyone is doing these days, I am in the midst of an HBO Girls re-watch. I was just beginning season 3 when I realised my husband has never seen it. Longer post on the intricacies of re-watching Girls 12 years later versus seeing it for the first time in 2024 forthcoming.
Obsessing:
The Prada Holiday Campaign
Give me all the lush reds and bows this holiday season.
The Secret History Conspiracy Iceberg
I have never heard of the Camilla Glass Theory and now it is all I can think about.
Recommending:
Taking in every second of the snow and last days of autumn. Taking a photo walk to capture the winter sun; exploring your local cemetery, freshly dusted with snow; bundling up and persuading someone to go ice skating, followed by gløgg.
Acquiring tickets to the Nutcracker.
Decorating for the holidays. I just ordered handmade, plush, embroidered advent candles as well as a large red bow from a local maker in Denmark called Kirstejn. I am in the mood to be festive and bring some light to an otherwise depressing time.
Treating:
Ett Hem
In the heat of a summer depression, I booked a Christmas stay at my favourite hotel in the whole world, Ett Hem in Stockholm, Sweden. This place is pure magic, and I think about the breakfasts on a bi-monthly basis.
I love being in this winter world with you. ❄️
